Marilyn's Tortillas!

I watched impatiently while my grandmother made us grand-kids tortillas...there were never enough!! She shared the family secret while I watched her when I got older. Then my mother "Marilyn" shared this revised version with me. They are great, because when you reheat them they are like they were made fresh off the griddle. Show more

Directions

  1. By hand softly blend the dry ingredients, then oil and when all ingredients are blended well slowly blend in the water till you get a nice soft, smooth, elastic ball. Make sure you don't over blend to avoid making a tough ball.
  2. Heat a griddle. Best to cook with a cast iron skillet etc.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 to 12 even dough balls. Lightly kneed them into disks. Place the disks into flour and roll out on a dusted surface. (this takes practice).
  4. Place rolled tortillas into heated skillet/griddle and turn once little bubbles appear. Then cook onto other side, then turn once more. Place in a towel to keep warm. When done slather with butter -- yuuuum!
