Margaret's Hush Puppies

I picked up this recipe when visiting a friend in Georgia many years ago.

Ready In: 25 mins

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 2 14 cups  self-rising cornmeal
  • 3  tablespoons self-rising flour
  • 1  tablespoon onion, finely chopped
  • 1  egg
  • 1  cup milk or 1  cup water
  •  salt (to taste, no salt in original recipe)

Directions

  1. Combine first three ingredients.
  2. Add egg.
  3. Gradually beat in milk.
  4. Drop by spoonful into hot fat.
  5. Remove when golden brown (15-20 minutes). Drain on paper towels. (Original recipe calls for 20 minutes.).
