Malaysian Sambal Ikan Bilis(Anchovies in Hot Sauce)

As a vital accompaniment to Nasi Lemak (spicy).

Ingredients

  • 12 cup  dried anchovy (can be substituted for quail's eggs,shellfish)
  • 1  bombay onion
  • 4  shallots
  • 2  tablespoons tamarind juice
  •  prawn paste (belacan) (optional)
  • 8  dried chilies (deseeded)
  • 1  garlic clove
  •  salt
  •  sugar

Directions

  1. Fry anchovies till crisp; set aside.
  2. Grind prawn paste with shallots,dried chillies. Slice Bombay onion into rings.
  3. Heat oil and fry the ground ingredients. Add in Bombay onion rings.
  4. Add remaining ingredients.
  5. Cook and stir occasionally till gravy thickens.
  6. Mix with anchovies and serve with steaming NASI LEMAK.
