Malaysian Sambal Ikan Bilis(Anchovies in Hot Sauce)

Ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup dried anchovy (can be substituted for quail's eggs,shellfish)
- 1 bombay onion
- 4 shallots
- 2 tablespoons tamarind juice
- prawn paste (belacan) (optional)
- 8 dried chilies (deseeded)
- 1 garlic clove
- salt
- sugar
Directions
- Fry anchovies till crisp; set aside.
- Grind prawn paste with shallots,dried chillies. Slice Bombay onion into rings.
- Heat oil and fry the ground ingredients. Add in Bombay onion rings.
- Add remaining ingredients.
- Cook and stir occasionally till gravy thickens.
- Mix with anchovies and serve with steaming NASI LEMAK.
