Lower Fat Whole Wheat Brownies

Ingredients
Brownie
- 1⁄2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 whole eggs
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1⁄2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, plus
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting
- 1⁄4 cup butter, softened
- 2 1⁄2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1⁄4 cup black coffee
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
- Mix applesauce, sugar, whole eggs, egg whites and vanilla in a large bowl. In a seperate bowl mix togeather whole wheat flour, cocoa powder and salt. Add the flour mixture to the applesauce mixture and stir well to combine. Pour into a greased 13" x 9" pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 27-37 minutes or until the middle is set. Let cool.
- For the frosting- combine all ingredients in a medium size bowl and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Spread on cooled brownies.
