Lori's Favorite Grape Leaves

Ingredients
- 1 (20 ounce) jar grape leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1⁄2 lb ground beef
- 1 onion (minced)
- 1 small garlic clove (minced)
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup tomato sauce
- 1⁄2 cup rice
- 1 tablespoon mint (minced)
- 1 tablespoon parsley (minced)
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- fresh cracked pepper (to taste)
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 1⁄4 cup currants
- 2 tablespoons pine nuts
- 2 tablespoons port wine
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄2 a lemon, juice of
- lemon slice
Directions
- Drain leaves. Separate. Soak to remove brine.
- Dry on paper towels.
- Heat oil in a skillet.
- Add the beef, onion and garlic. Brown.
- Add the water, tomato sauce, rice,.
- mint, parsley, salt, pepper, cinnamon, currants, pine nuts and port.
- Bring to a boil. Reduce. Cover. Simmer 15 minutes.
- Let cool.
- Remove stems from leaves. Place stem side up on counter.
- Place 1-2 teaspoons of filling on each.
- Fold in sides then roll up tightly.
- Line the bottom of a large skillet with 4 of the leaves. Top with rolls, fitting them snuggly.
- Add water and lemon juice.
- Place a plate on top.
- Bring to a boil. Reduce. Cover. Simmer 45 minutes.
- Serve with lemon slices.
