Lil's Banana Cake With Char's Chocolate Frosting

This recipe comes partly from my Great Grandma Lily and partly from my Grandma Char. It's my Great Grandma's cake and my Grandma's frosting. My grandma left this note, "This recipe will make just enough frosting, but I often double it so that I can eat some and over frost the cake, especially the middle section." Show more

Directions

  1. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  2. Add shortening buttermilk and bananas. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Add milk and eggs. Beat for another two minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Pour into two greased and floured round cake pans.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
  6. While cake is cooling, make frosting. Beat butter until soft and in small pieces. Add cocoa, powdered sugar and milk. Mix at medium, but you might need to add a few drops more milk if texture is not right. Lastly, add the vanilla, mix it inches.
  7. Frost cake when it is totally cooled.
