Krispie Treat Brownies W/M & M's from a Box

I just had to post this! The colorful M&M's on top gives it a WOW factor for kids, plus it really dresses up the squares. I thought of Easter treats when I read the recipe. A chewy, crunchy and decadant dessert.. (Peanut butter M&M's can also be used.) *** Note: I have not made this recipe. The only hesitation I have is the even layering of the Rice Krispie mixture over the cooled brownies. However, I have always had good luck with the recipes found in the San Diego, CA's North County Times food section *** (Preparation time does not include time it takes to make and cool brownies, which could even be done the day before.) Directions

  1. Prepare and cool brownie mix in 9 x 9 pan as directed.
  2. In medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the mini marshmallows, butter and peanut butter. Heat on high in 30-second bursts, stirring between bursts, until melted and smooth. Stir in the Rice Krispies.
  3. Using oiled or damp hands, press the cereal mixture over the top of the cooled brownies, forming it into an even layer. Set aside to cool.
  4. Meanwhile, to make the ganache, in a small saucepan over medium-low, bring the cream to a simmer.
  5. Add the chocolate chips and let sit for 1 minute. Using a silicone spatula or wooden spoon, stir the cream and chocolate chips until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Pour the ganache over the rice treat layer and spread to the edges of the pan.
  6. Sprinkle M&Ms over ganache layer. Let cool until the chocolate is set before cutting into 16 squares. Treats are so rich you don't need the squares to be so big!
  7. Wrap tightly in airtight container.
