Key Lime Pie

Ingredients

  • 3  eggs, separated
  • 1 (14 ounce) can  sweetened  condensed milk
  • 12 cup lime juice
  • 1  unbaked  9-inch pie shell
  • 12 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 13 cup sugar
  • 2 -3  drops  green food coloring (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 deg F.
  2. Beat egg yolks.
  3. Fold in milk and lime juice.
  4. If desired, stir in food colouring.
  5. Pour into pie crust.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven.
  8. Increase oven temperature to 350 deg F.
  9. Now, prepare the meringue.
  10. For this, beat egg whites with cream of tartar till soft white peaks form.
  11. Gradually beat in sugar until it is completely dissolved.
  12. Immediately spread the merngue over the hot pie.
  13. Bake for 15 minutes.
  14. Cool for an hour.
  15. Chill for atleast 3 hours.
  16. Serve!
