Jetty's Apple Dumplings

My variation of an apple dumpling recipe from a wonderful lady from Louisiana. This is a family favorite. Show more

Ingredients

  • 2  granny smith apples, peeled quartered and cored
  • 1 (12 ounce) package  refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (Big and Flaky)
  • 4  teaspoons  cold butter (each tsp cut in half)
  • 1  cup  orange juice
  • 12 cup water
  • 1  cup sugar
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 1  teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2  tablespoons sugar

Directions

  1. In a saucepan combine orange juice, water, vanilla and cup of sugar. Bring to a slow boil on stove, stirring often until reduced to 1/2 volume.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Open package of crescents, unroll dough and slice into 8 equal rectangles (ignoring the perforations).
  4. Combine cinnamon and 2 tbsp sugar in a small bowl.
  5. Take an apple quarter and roll in cinnamon sugar mixture covering well, place 1/2 butter pat on apple and roll in a section of dough. Make sure dough covers entire apple quarter making sure all seams are sealed.
  6. Place in greased 8 x 8 baking pan. Repeat for all apple quarters.
  7. Pour orange juice mixture over dumplings.
  8. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon sugar mixture over top of each dumpling.
  9. Bake 30 minutes or until dumplings are browned.
  10. Serve warm with Ice Cream or Whipped Cream.
