Jennifer's Shepherd's Pie

Yields: 1 pan

Ingredients

  • 2 12 lbs  beef shoulder, ground or 2 12 lbs  ground sirloin
  • 33  butter flavored crackers, like Ritz (1 sleeve)
  • 3  celery ribs, finely chopped
  • 1  large onion, finely chopped
  • 2  garlic cloves, minced or 2  teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2  teaspoons  celery salt (no substitute)
  • 2  teaspoons marjoram
  • 2  eggs
  • 1  tablespoon milk
  •  steamed carrots or   frozen peas or  corn, do not use beans
  •  mashed potatoes, made with butter

Directions

  1. FYI, she ground a beef shoulder roast in her food processor and it was awesome. I wonder if a butcher would do it for those who don't own one.
  2. Combine everything except the steamed carrots and mashed potatoes. Cook in a 9 x 13 pan at 375°F for 30 minutes.
  3. Layer vegetables over cooked meat.
  4. Cover everything with mashed potatoes. Cook at 350°F for 15-20 minutes.
