Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients
- 5 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 cup butter
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 egg
Directions
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in mixing bowl.
- Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
- Combine buttermilk and egg.
- Add to dry ingredients.
- Stir until blended.
- Turn out on floured board.
- Knead until smooth.
- Divide dough in half and shape each half into approximately 5" wide x 7" long.
- Put both loaves into one well-greased 13" x 9" x 2 pan.
- Score a 4" cross on top of each loaf.
- Sprinkle with flour.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes .
