  1. Set oven at 375 degrees and grease a 2 quart casserole.
  2. In mixing bowl mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Stir in caraway seeds.
  4. With pastry blender cut in butter until mixture is like coarse corn meal.
  5. Add raisins.
  6. Mix buttermilk, egg and soda.
  7. Stir in flour mixture.
  8. Knead lightly on floured board.
  9. Shape into ball and place in casserole.
  10. Make 4 inch cross, 1/4 inch deep on top.
  11. Brush with beaten egg yolk.
  12. Bake 1 hour or until done.
  13. Cool 10 minutes and remove.
