Irish Moss (Instructions for Preparation)

I recently purchased a bag of Irish Moss from my local co-operative. I have used it twice. I made a Raw Chocolate Mousse and a Raw Cherry Pie. Irish Moss is a thickener similar to gelatin. It takes a little effort to prepare but once it's done you can just blend it into your ingredients to set up. Show more

Yields: 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1 (4 ounce) bag Irish moss
  • 1  quart  clean filtered water (I used a mason jar)

Directions

  1. First thing you must do is read your recipe to see how much you will need.
  2. Weigh the Irish Moss out.
  3. Rinse it at least 3 times and remove any debris and salt that may be clinging to the moss.
  4. Put it into a mason jar and soak in the filtered water for at least 3 days.
  5. Rinse the Moss at least 2 or 3 times over the course of the day with fresh filtered water.
  6. Then use as per the directions in your recipe.
