Iced Texas Brownies

These were one of the treats at a new neighbour's open house - I just couldn't stop eating them!! Like any good neighbour, she shared the recipe with me .... and now I'm sharing it with you!!

• Yields: 30-36 brownies

Ingredients

• BROWNIES

• 2  cups flour
• 2  cups sugar
• 1⁄2 cup butter
• 1⁄2 cup shortening
• 1  cup  strong coffee
• 1⁄4 cup  dark cocoa
• 1⁄2 cup milk
• 2  teaspoons lemon juice
• 2  eggs
• 1  teaspoon baking soda
• 1  teaspoon vanilla

• ICING

• 1⁄2 cup butter
• 1⁄4 cup milk
• 2  tablespoons  dark cocoa
• 3 1⁄2 cups icing sugar
• 1  teaspoon vanilla

Directions

1. BROWNIES: Combine flour& sugar in large mixing bowl.
2. Melt butter& shortening in saucepan; add cocoa& coffee and heat to boiling.
3. Pour boiling mixture over dry ingredients& mix well.
4. Add remaining ingredients& mix well.
5. Pour into greased 11 x 17 inch baking dish and bake in preheated 400F oven for 20 mins or until done.
6. Allow to cool before icing.
7. ICING: Melt butter in saucepan.
8. Add cocoa& milk and heat to boiling.
9. Add icing sugar& vanilla; mix well& spread over brownies.
