Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1⁄2 cup flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3⁄4 cup buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons hot melted shortening
- 2 tablespoons onions, grated
Directions
- Mix all ingredients together. Drop by tablespoonfuls into hot fat. (Use enough fat to cover half of each portion of batter.) Brown on one side; turn, brown. Serve as bread with fried fish. Yield and cook times are approximate.
