Homemade Substitutes for Condensed Soups

Ingredients
ALL RECIPES
- 1 tablespoon potato starch or 1 tablespoon organic cornstarch
- salt (to taste)
- pepper (to taste)
CREAM OF CHICKEN
- 1⁄4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1⁄2 cup chicken broth
- 1⁄2 cup milk
CREAM OF MUSHROOM
- 1⁄2 teaspoon butter
- 1⁄4 cup diced mushroom
- 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
- 1 cup milk
CREAM OF CELERY
- 1⁄2 teaspoon butter
- 1⁄4 cup diced celery
- 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
- 1 cup milk
TOMATO SOUP
- 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon basil
- 1⁄4 teaspoon oregano
- 1 cup tomato juice
CHEDDAR CHEESE SOUP
- 1⁄4 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 cup milk
- 1⁄2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions
- Place saucepan over medium heat.
- For CREAM OF MUSHROOM or CREAM OF CELERY: melt butter and sauté veggies.
- For ALL: combine starch, liquid, and spices in a container with a tight fitting lid. Shake vigorously until well combined. Add to saucepan and stir constantly until thick.
- To finish CHEDDAR CHEESE: Remove saucepan from heat. Add cheese and stir until melted.
