  1. Heat olive oil in large skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onions, celery, carrot, sausage, beef, and garlic until meat is browned, about 10 minutes.
  2. Transfer the mixture into the slow cooker.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomato, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and spices.
  4. Cook on low for about 8 hours.
  5. About 15 minutes before serving, stir in the sugar if needed.
