Ingredients

  • 1 (1/4ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1  tablespoon sugar
  • 3  teaspoons salt
  • 2  cups water, lukewarm
  • 6  cups flour (more as needed)
  • 14 cup  jalapeno, chopped (either fresh or canned)
  • 14 cup butter, softened

Directions

  1. Dissolve first three ingredients in water.
  2. Add flour, peppers and butter; mix until well incorporated.
  3. Knead dough for five minutes on floured surface.
  4. Place dough in a large, buttered bowl; cover and let rise until doubled.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or butter (or butter four 8 x 4" loaf pans).
  6. Punch dough down and divide into fourths; form into loaves.
  7. Cover and let rise until doubled.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  9. Bake loaves 25 minutes or until done and golden brown.
  10. If you want a soft crust, baste surface with a light coat of butter when you remove the loaves from the oven.
