Ham and Double Cheese Sandwiches (Taste of Home)

I toasted this in the oven, but I'll post as written. The author said she won first prize in a local sandwich contest. Recipe courtesy of Taste of Home.

• Serves: 4

Ingredients

• 3  ounces cream cheese, softened
• 2  tablespoons  chopped green chilies
• 1  tablespoon  onion soup mix
• 1  cup  shredded cheddar cheese
• 1⁄4 cup  chopped hazelnuts, toasted
• 8  slices  whole wheat bread
• 16  slices cooked ham
• 4  lettuce leaves

Directions

1. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, chilies, and soup mix until smooth.
2. Add cheese and nuts if desired and mix well.
3. Evenly spread on four slices of bread. Layer each with 4 slices of ham and a lettuce leaf. Top with remaining bread.
