Great Grandma's Apple Kuchen

This is a traditional german apple cake. My family found the recipe going through old recipe cards... we made it and it came out delicious! Eat it the day you make it or the day after, otherwise it will get a little soggy. Show more

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix 1 1/2 cups of flour, the baking powder, 3 tbsp of sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Using a fork or pastry blender, blend in 3 tbsp of butter.
  4. Mix the beaten egg with the milk and add to dry ingredients.
  5. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Spread the batter into a 13x9 pan.
  7. Arrange apples over the cake batter in rows.
  8. For the topping, melt 4 tbsp butter, and add 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 cup flour.
  9. Sprinkle the topping over the cake.
  10. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees and enjoy!
