Grandma's Mother's Chili Sauce

A favourite recipe from my 103 year old grandmother. Each summer's end/autumn's beginning, the bees would gather at the screen door as she bottled this addictive blend.

• Yields: 8 litres

Ingredients

• 30  tomatoes (large, ripe)
• 6  peaches
• 6  pears
• 6  apples
• 4  large onions (green, though red or other may be substituted) or   3 bell pepper (green, though red or other may be substituted)
• 1  bunch celery
• 4  cups brown sugar
• 1  quart cider vinegar
• 1⁄2 cup  pickling spices
• 2  tablespoons salt
• 1⁄2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions

1. Boil together for two hours and put in sterlised jars.
2. Yield is approximate.
