Grandma Sheldon's Wassail

A most delicious hot apple drink for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Add a little dark rum, apple brandy or caramel flavored liquor for a kick!

• Yields: 8 ounce servings

Ingredients

• 1  gallon cider or 1  gallon  apple juice
• 6  whole cloves
• 6  whole allspice
• 2  teaspoons nutmeg
• 1 (6 ounce) can  frozen lemonade concentrate
• 1 (6 ounce) can  frozen orange juice
• 1  cup  packed brown sugar

Directions

1. Place spices into cheese cloth and tie it at the top.
2. Pour cider or juice, lemonade and orange juice concentrate and brown sugar into a large pot.
3. Place cheese cloth with spices in the pot of juices. Bring the juices to a boil.
4. Allow to boil for 5-10 minutes. Reduce heat, allow to simmer at very low heat all day. Serve hot.
5. OPTIONAL: Put the spices into the coffee filter of your coffee maker, pour the juice and sugar mixture into the place where you'd normally pour water, and run a coffee cycle. The coffee maker will even keep it warm!
6. OPTIONAL: Put all ingredients (with spices in a cheesecloth) into a crockpot on high for an hour, then lower to warm so that it stays warm all day for serving.
