Gooey Butter Cake

My mom has made this for years and it's always a huge hit. It's very rich, but addictive!

Yields: 1 cake

Ingredients

  • Step one

  • 1 (18 ounce) box  butter recipe cake mix or 1 (18 ounce) box  any other  yellow cake mix
  • 12 cup  softened butter
  • 1  egg
  • Step two

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 4  cups powdered sugar
  • 2  eggs
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in step one and press into an 13x9x2 inch greased and floured pan. Set aside.
  2. Combine all ingredients in step two and blend very well. Pour mixture over step one, DO NOT MIX TOGETHER.
  3. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. When done, top will have a soft, light crust.
  4. Allow to cool completely and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Make sure cake is completely cooled before cutting.
