Gingerbread Waffles

This recipe was a lifesaver when I wanted to make a nice breakfast but didn't have any milk. They are gently spiced and not too sweet. Show more

  1. Mix together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Beat the eggs until they are lemon-colored.
  3. Add the sugar to the eggs and beat again.
  4. Add the molasses to the eggs and beat again.
  5. Melt the shortening or butter in the hot water.
  6. Add the hot water mixture to the egg mixture alternately with the flour mixture.
  7. Mix thoroughly.
  8. Bake on a hot waffle iron.
  9. Serve with warm applesauce.
  10. Note: The cooking time is for each waffle.
