Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 1⁄2 cups boiling water
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 large egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Stir together molasses and boiling water; add soda and let cool till lukewarm.
- Cream butter and sugar; add egg.
- Sift all remaining ingredients.
- Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture.
- Add molasses mixture; batter will be very thin.
- Place batter in 9 x 13 pan.
- Bake for 20 minutes then reduce heat to 300° and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until cake tests done.
