Ginger Cookies

This recipe came from my 7th grade Home Ec class over 40 years ago. Our teacher said it was an old family recipe. If you're in a hurry, form the dough into rolls (instead of rolling it out and cutting with a cookie cutter), refrigerate it, then slice thinly and cook for less time than the recipe calls for. Decorate as desired. Show more

Directions

  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg and syrup and beat well. Instead of molasses, I use King Syrup. If it's not available where you live, it's a thick golden syrup.
  3. Mix together flour, salt, baking soda, and spices and add them to the butter mixture and mix well.
  4. Roll out 1/8 inch thick on slightly floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
  5. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired.
  6. Bake on slightly greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350 degrees (Fahrenheit).
