German Style Red Cabbage

Serves: 4-6
Ingredients
- 1 large red cabbage
- 1⁄4 cup water
- 1⁄2 cup vinegar
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 apple, finely chopped
- 1⁄2 cup shortening, I use bacon grease, it just gives a wonderful flavor
Directions
- Shred cabbage.
- Bring water, vinegar, sugar to a boil.
- Add cabbage, apple, and shortening.
- Reduce to simmering and cook about one hour.
- Enjoy.
