German Coffee Cake

I got this recipe from cooks.com, it calls for a lot of sugar but it is not too sweet, it came out lovely, the apples tend to take away the sweetness. Enjoy!! Show more

Serves: 12-14

Ingredients

  • 4  apples, pared and sliced
  • 12 cup  chopped  nuts (I used walnuts)
  • 5  tablespoons sugar
  • 2  teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3  cups flour
  • 2  cups sugar
  • 3  teaspoons baking powder
  • 1  teaspoon salt
  • 4  eggs
  • 1  cup  oil
  • 14 cup  orange juice or 14 cup  pineapple juice
  • 2 12 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

  1. Mix together apples, 5 tablespoons sugar, cinnamon and nuts. Set aside.
  2. Combine and beat until smooth, all of the remaining ingredients. Pour half of the batter (which could be thick) into a greased tube pan. Add half of the apple mixture. Pour in the remaining batter. Top with the remaining apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
