Fudge Filled Chocolate Chip Thumbprints

Great tasting, lovely looking cookies to enjoy. No need to wait for the holidays to make these. Also, they contain no eggs. One of my son's most requested cookies.

• Yields: 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients

• For the cookies

• 1⁄2 cup  soft butter
• 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
• 1  teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1⁄2 cup  packed brown sugar
• 1 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1⁄4 cup  semisweet mini chocolate chips
• 2  tablespoons milk
•  sifted confectioners' sugar

• Filling

• 3⁄4 cup  semisweet chocolate piece
• 1  tablespoon shortening (like Crisco)
• 2  tablespoons white corn syrup
• 1  tablespoon water
• 1  teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

1. Cream butter, salt & vanilla till fluffy; beat in sugar.
2. Blend in flour, milk, and mini chocolate chips.
3. Shape into 1" balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet. With finger or thumb, poke depression in each.
4. Bake in 375 degree F. oven for 10-12 minutes.
5. Roll while warm in confectioners sugar. Set aside while you make filling:.
6. Melt chocolate chips with shortening; stir.
7. Cool a little.
8. Blend in corn syrup, water and vanilla.
9. Fill cooled cookies.
