Fudge Filled Chocolate Chip Thumbprints

Ingredients
For the cookies
- 1⁄2 cup soft butter
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1⁄2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1⁄4 cup semisweet mini chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons milk
- sifted confectioners' sugar
Filling
- 3⁄4 cup semisweet chocolate piece
- 1 tablespoon shortening (like Crisco)
- 2 tablespoons white corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
- Cream butter, salt & vanilla till fluffy; beat in sugar.
- Blend in flour, milk, and mini chocolate chips.
- Shape into 1" balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet. With finger or thumb, poke depression in each.
- Bake in 375 degree F. oven for 10-12 minutes.
- Roll while warm in confectioners sugar. Set aside while you make filling:.
- Melt chocolate chips with shortening; stir.
- Cool a little.
- Blend in corn syrup, water and vanilla.
- Fill cooled cookies.
