French Pastry Cake

Ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1⁄2 cup cocoa powder
- 3⁄4 cup hot water
- 3 egg whites, beaten stiff
- powdered sugar, for topping
Directions
- dissolve cocoa into hot water; let cool while you prepare other ingredients.
- cream butter and sugar well.
- add flour, sour cream, baking soda, salt and vanilla.
- add cocoa mixture.
- fold in egg whites.
- pour into greased 9x13 pan.
- bake at 350° dor 15 minutes.
- lower oven to 325° nd bake for an additional 20 minutes or until tests clean.
- when cool, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.
