French Onion Soup

This is my own version that I have been making for over a year now. I use the largest sweet onion I can find, so when I write 1 large sweet onion, I'm talking about the largest one that anyone could look for. For the chicken powder, I use from the company Osem, which produces parave powders, so that the chicken flavour is simulated. You can also use beef powder or vegetable powder. Show more

Directions

  1. Saute the onion with the seasonings, on medium low heat. Continue to saute for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Add the water with the chicken flavoured powder, and let it come to a boil, on high. Lower the heat to medium low, and let it simmer for 25 minutes.
  3. When ready to serve, put the broiler on 475 degrees F. Ladle the soup into five French Onion soup bowls. Add the bread, and cover with cheese. Put the anchovies on top of the cheese (if using). Put the bowls, two at a time in the oven, and let it broil for 2-3 minutes.
