Flemish Carbonade (Beer Meat)

Ingredients
- 2 lbs round steaks
- 1 (12 ounce) can beer
- 2 tablespoons oleo
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1⁄4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1⁄4 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1⁄2 cup canned beef broth
Directions
- Cut meat into 1" cubes.
- Melt some fat from meat in skillet, throw rest of fat away. Brown meat on both sides for 15 minutes. Set aside.
- Cook oleo and onions until golden.
- Put meat into casserole, then onions. Add seasoning and herbs. Pour in beer, stir, then add cornstarch dissolved in broth, and sugar.
- Bring to boil, stirring, then pour liquid over meat in casserole.
- Cover and bake at 300 for 2 hours.
