Flax Seed Cracker Bread

A thin low-fat crisp cracker-like bread that you break into pieces to eat. Flax seed is available in the health food section of the supermarket. Found this on landolakes web site and am posting this as a favor to my friend, Mary. Here's to you! Haven't made this as yet. Show more

  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine whole wheat flour, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  3. Mix in butter or margarine with fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add buttermilk; stir just until flour is moistened.
  5. Stir in flax seed.
  6. Place dough on lightly floured surface; knead 3 to 5 times until smooth.
  7. Divide dough in half.
  8. Roll out each half with floured rolling pin or pat each half with floured fingers into 13x11" rectangle on greased baking sheets.
  9. Prick all over with fork.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Cool completely.
  12. Break into pieces.
  13. *Tip: Flax seeds, when used as whole seeds, add texture to foods. Ground seeds give the most nutritional benefit and are a primary source or omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
