Fillings for Kolace

Ingredients
Poppyseed filling
- 2 cups milk
- 1⁄2 lb ground poppy seed
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon white syrup (Karo)
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 tablespoons butter
Prune filling
- 1 lb prune
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
Cottage Cheese filling
- 1 lb dry curd cottage cheese
- 1⁄2 cup white sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- Poppyseed filling:.
- Bring 2 cups milk to a boil.
- Stir in poppyseed.
- Let simmer 20 minutes stirring constantly.
- Add sugar, white syrup and salt.
- Let simmer 3 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and add almond extract, butter and vanilla.
- Let cool.
- Prune filling:.
- Cook prunes in water until soft.
- Drain and remove pits.
- Mash prunes and add sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.
- Let cool.
- Cottage Cheese filling:.
- Mix dry cottage cheese, egg yolk, sugar and vanilla until well combined. Let set until ready to fill kolace.
