Favourite Apple Butter

This is an easy recipe that I adapted to the crockpot. I do preparations the night before and let it cook on low through the night and through most of the next day. Love the smell of it as it simmers all evening and all day, almost as much as I enjoy the finished product on bagels, toast, waffles, pancakes or even better, morning oatmeal! It can also be used in my recipe for gingerbread cake. If you reduce or skip the cinnamon in the recipe it is fabulous on toast and cheese! Show more

Directions

  1. In the evening, peel, core and slice enough apples so that your crockpot's lid is resting on top of the apples (they will cook down). Remove and toss with lemon juice. Poor apples and lemon juice back into crockpot and cover. Cook for about 18 hours on low (7 to 10 hours on high), stirring a couple of times as the apples soften.
  2. Mix in the sugar, ground cinnamon and cloves. Cook for 4 more hours. Pour into sterilize jars.
