Fannie Taylor Harris' Boiled Dressing

Yields: 1 bowl dressing
Ingredients
- 1⁄2 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 1⁄2 tablespoons sugar
- 1⁄8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1⁄2 tablespoon flour
- 3 egg yolks
- 3⁄4 cup milk, scant
- 1⁄4 cup cider vinegar
- 1 1⁄2 tablespoons melted butter
Directions
- Mix together well all of the dry ingredients. Beat slightly the egg yolks and add them to the dry ingredients, then the milk, butter, and then VERY SLOWLY the vinegar. Place this mixture in a double boiler and cook over simmering water until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let cool. Refrigerate for up to a week or more.
