Easy Apple Turnovers (Gale Gand)

The puff pastry will need to defrost in the refrigerator overnight, so plan ahead!

  1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Put chopped apple, applesauce, apple butter, raisins, and nutmeg in a small bowl and combine.
  3. Dust a flat work are with flour and lay out puff pastry.
  4. Use a rolling pin to roll sheets out into a 10x10 inch squares.
  5. Cut each pastry sheet into 4 5x5 inch squares.
  6. Use a pastry brush to brush edges of squares with beaten egg, reserve the remaining egg to brush tops of turnovers.
  7. Dividing the apple mixture evenly, spoon into the center of each pastry square.
  8. Fold the squares over diagonally, pressing the edges to enclose the filling; making sure to also press out any air.
  9. Press edges with the tines of a fork to seal completely.
  10. Place the turnovers on a baking sheet and brush tops with remaining beaten egg.
  11. Bake for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove from oven and place on a rack to cool.
  13. Combine sugar and milk together in a small bowl until smooth.
  14. Drizzle over slightly cooled turnovers.
