Doughnuts

Ingredients
- 3 1⁄3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 2 eggs
- 3⁄4 cup milk
Directions
- heat oil (3-4 inches deep) in a fryer or pot, to 375°F.
- combine 1 1/2 cup flour, and remaining ingredients in large mixing bowl.
- mix in remaining flour.
- turn dough out onto well floured and cloth covered surface, roll to coat with flour.
- gently roll dough to 3/8 inch thick and cut with doughnut cutter.
- carefully slide doughnuts into hot oil and fry till golden brown on both sides.
- drain on paper towel.
- serve plain, sugared or frosted.
