David's Favorite Cholent Recipe

Serves: 20

Ingredients

  • 4  large potatoes, coarsely chopped
  • 2  medium onions, chopped
  • 1 12 lbs  short  ribs or 1 12 lbs  flankin if using  meat
  • 14 cup  oil if not using  meat
  • 13 cup barbecue sauce
  • 13 cup ketchup
  • 1 12 tablespoons salt
  • 1  tablespoon garlic powder
  • 12 teaspoon pepper
  • 13 lb  dried  beans, for cholent checked and rinsed
  • 34 lb barley, checked and rinsed
  • 12  kishke, without plastic
  •  water

Directions

  1. 6 quart crock pot.
  2. Line bottom of crock pot with potatoes.
  3. Layer each of the following ingredients in order. No need to stir.
  4. Remember if not using meat use 1/4 cup oil and if using meat you don't need the oil.
  5. Fill pot to 1 inch higher than the ingredients with water.
  6. Set pot at Low for 24 hours OR High for 12 hours.
  7. Do not mix until right before serving.
