Dave's Family Famous Sloppy Joes

I call these “Dave’s Family Famous Sloppy Joes” because they are a big hit with my family, at church potlucks, and for school lunches. I thank my mother-in-law (Marion Verdon) for giving me her recipe. I adapted my recipe from hers which called for 1/4 tsp nutmeg.

• Serves: 6

Ingredients

• 2  lbs  ground chuck
• 1  small sweet onion, diced
• 2  tablespoons sugar (or a sweetner substitute)
•  salt and pepper
• 2  cups ketchup
• 2  tablespoons spicy brown mustard
• 2  tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Directions

1. Brown the Ground Check with onion.
2. Drain off the fat and return to stove on medium heat.
3. Add Sugar, salt, and pepper.
4. Mix ketchup, mustard, and apple cider vinegar in a measuring cup and stir.
5. Add ketchup mixture to ground chuck.
6. Bring to a slight boil.
7. Reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes stirring to prevent burning.
8. Serve over hamburger buns.
9. Delicious with fresh sweet corn.
