Date Roll

From my Granny Renfro's recipe box

Yields: 24 slices

Ingredients

  • 2  cups sugar
  • 1  cup milk
  • 2  tablespoons butter
  • 1  cup  nuts, chopped
  • 1 12 cups dates, chopped

Directions

  1. Combine Sugar, Milk, & Butter in saucepan.
  2. Cook slowly, stirring until mixture boils. Boil slowly to 240F or until a small amount dropped into cold water forms a semi-firm ball.
  3. Remove from heat. Add Dates & Nuts.
  4. Stir until mixture thickens. Pour onto damp cloths forming two rows.
  5. Chill until firm. Slice 1/4" thick.
