Date Pudding

Ingredients
- 1 1⁄4 cups flour
- 1⁄4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 1⁄2 cups cut up dates
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄4 cup soft butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
Directions
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Stir in nuts.
- Sprinkle dates with soda and pour boiling water over them just enough to cover them and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Stir in flour and nuts. Add date mixture and stir to blend well.
- Turn into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Bake 45 minutes in a 350 degree oven until center comes out clean.
- Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if you want.
