Cretons (Groton) Version II

French Canadian Breakfast spread. Usually served in restaurants at breakfast. I asked for this recipe on another site. The person who makes it, and posted it, is from Washington state, and this version appears to be the one I had growing up. I cannot give an amount b/c it depends on how thick you spread it on your toast! Show more

Directions

  1. Simmer first 3 ingredients for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Add the second 3 ingredients and simmer for a few minutes.
  3. Beat well. Stir in the milk.
  4. Put into bowls to cool, stirring occasionally while cooling.
  5. Store covered in fridge.
  6. NOTE:.
  7. A layer of fat may coat the top; you can remove this as you use the spread.
