  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream margarine with sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  4. Stir flour with baking soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
  5. Stir in oats.
  6. Fold in chips and nuts.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake at 350° for 8-9 minutes for a chewy cookies, 10-11 minutes for a crisp cookie.
  9. Transfer to wire cooling racks.
