Chocolate Schnecke Pastry

This German dessert, named for its snail-like shape, is sure to be a favorite.

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla, and mix well.
  3. Add coconut and pecans and cook until thick.
  4. While the coconut pecan frosting cools, unfold the puff pastry dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  5. When partially cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the pastry, sprinkle with mini chocolate chips, and roll up into a log.
  6. Cut the log into 1/2 inch pieces and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake 10-15 minutes or until pastry is lightly browned. Allow to cool and serve warm.
