Chocolate-Pecan Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 1/4ounce) package  devil's food cake mix
  • 3  eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 13 cup  oil (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 13 cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1  cup  semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1  cup pecans, chopped
  • 3 (16 ounce) cans  white frosting
  • 1  ounce  semisweet chocolate, grated
  •  pecan halves

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Coat two 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray.
  3. Prepare cake mix according to package directions; stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped pecans.
  4. Divide batter between pans; sprinkle with remaining chips.
  5. Bake 30 minutes on until toothpick inserted into centers comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from pans; cool completely on wire racks.
  7. Combine 1 cup frosting, grated chocolate, and remaining chopped pecans.
  8. Place 1 cake layer on serving plate; spread with frosting mixture.
  9. Top with remaining cake layer; spread top and sides with remaining frosting.
  10. Garnish with pecan halves.
