Chocolate Oatmeal Cake

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but it sure sounds good to me! It's from one of my 3 favorite cookbooks, The Best of Mennonite Fellowship Meals. Show more

Yields: 1 9x13 inch pan

  1. Pour boiling water over oatmeal in large mixing bowl and let stand for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add shortening, sugar and eggs; mix well.
  3. Add flour, salt, baking soda, cocoa and vanilla.
  4. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13" baking pan.
  5. Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips over batter.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.
