Chocolate Dream Bars

These are my favorite bar cookies that can be altered to what you have in the pantry. The recipe calls for any type of dry cereal but I really must insist you use Grape Nut Flakes. I think they're the best. I usually use walnuts and chocolate chips. Show more

Yields: 1 pan of cookies

Ingredients

  • 1  cup flour
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1  cup  cereal
  • 34 cup  nuts
  • 34 cup butter
  • 1 34 cups sugar
  • 2  eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 (12 ounce) package chocolate or 1 (12 ounce) package  butterscotch chips

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients.
  2. Add cereal and nuts.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing well.
  6. Spread into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  7. Sprinkle with chips.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
  9. Cool and cut into bars.
