Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter (Smart Balance brand, preferred)
- 1⁄2 cup egg substitute (Egg Beaters brand, preferred)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1⁄2 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 10 ounces chocolate chips
- 1 1⁄2 cups walnuts, chopped (or your choice)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 13x9 baking pan.
- Combine flour with baking soda and salt in medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar; add the egg substitute and the vanilla to the butter/sugar mixture, beating well.
- Stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until blended; stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips.
- Spread mixture into the greased baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle remaining chocolate chips over the top; cover with foil (to hold in heat) for about 2 minutes, until the chocolate is soft and spreadable.
- Spread chocolate over the surface of the bars and sprinkle with the chopped nuts.
- Let cool completely, then cut into 36 bars before cooling.
