Chocolate Chip Banana Cream Pie II

I've had this recipe for many years on an old recipe card that is yellowing badly. I'm putting it here for safekeeping. This is a very tasty pie and different from most others I've had. Prep time does not include chill time. Show more

Yields: 1 pie

Ingredients

  • Crust

  • 2  cups  corn flakes, crushed
  • 12 cup butter, melted (1 stick)
  • 14 cup sugar
  • Filling

  • 4  egg yolks
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 2  cups milk, scalded
  • 1  tablespoon unflavored gelatin (1 envelope)
  • 14 cup cold water
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 2  large bananas, ripe, sliced
  • 1  cup sour cream
  • 13 cup  semi-sweet chocolate chips, chopped

Directions

  1. Crust:.
  2. Mix corn flake crumbs, melted butter and sugar together.
  3. Press firmly on bottom and sides of pie plate.
  4. Chill until ready to fill.
  5. Filling:.
  6. Beat egg yolks and sugar thoroughly.
  7. Add a little scalded milk, stirring constantly.
  8. Add mixture to rest of scalded milk in pan.
  9. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  10. Soften gelatin in cold water and blend into custard.
  11. Add vanilla.
  12. Chill until it starts to gel then fold in sliced bananas.
  13. Pour into crumb shell and spread on sour cream.
  14. Sprinkle chopped chocolate chips over top.
  15. Cover pie with meringue.
